The first public event of the Charrette was held on Wednesday May 1st, 2013 at 6:00 PM, at a large meeting hall in Lansing. It started with a kick-off presentation by Victor Dover, followed by a hands-on design exercise with small groups of a dozen people each. The exercise was designed to gather vision ideas for the 21-mile long corridor that links ten cities and townships. In order to tackle such a large study area, each table worked on one of three segments from west to central to east. As an “icebreaker” exercise people were asked to rate “good” or “bad” the aesthetic and urban form of some typical buildings. Results will be tallied and used by the design team to understand which character is preferred…
